"First Issue: The first issue of the Illustrated
Classic was published after Sand in 1929. It is about impossible to identify if
you only look at the copyright page. In point of fact, in the first dozen years
that Scribner's republished this edition, only one page differs from the original.
Fortunately, that one page is always different right up to 1942. The one different
page faces the title page. If it lists Sand at the top of the list, the book so
blessed is the 1929 first of the Classic edition."
