| Paula says: "I haven't seen a bracelet in a long time that I like as much as this one. The stones from the #8 Mine and their careful handcut bezels - well, they take my breath away. What a masterful job of letting the stones do the talking with only a few embellishments of large raindrops, some edge stamping and simple silver braid going back to the ends. If it is your size, take advantage of a wonderful piece !"

Number Eight Turquoise The Number Eight (#8) Mine near Carlin, Nevada is known for its exceptional spiderweb turquoise with the matrix ranging from golden brown to almost black, but a deep golden webbing is most characteristic. First mined in 1929, the mine is now closed so its stones are much more precious. #8 has produced some of the largest turquoise nuggets ever found (including one 150 pound nugget) and some of the prettiest. The color of the turquoise ranges from a bright powder blue to a light green. Many of the stones were stashed by forward thinking entrepreneurs and they have been released from time to time for the creation of high-end Native American jewelry. The mine was depleted in the 1960s, but in the process of digging an open pit gold mine nearby a new vein of spiderweb turquoise was discovered. But because the goal of the dig was gold, much of the turquoise that was excavated was dumped and buried ! Yee-gads !! | ||||||||||||||||||||
