Stones and shells incude: turquoise, pipestone, white Mother of Pearl (MOP), Spiny Oyster, Picasso marble, zebra rock, abalone, serpentine, pink MOP. They are hand carved by Zuni artists Benson White, Tim Shay, Bobby Huber, and Bobby Lee. Each horse is individually hand carved from a different kind of rock or stone, then polished. They eyes are inlaid jet. Although a particular artist's style of horse will be similar, no two horses are the same. Their differences make each horse unique and special. The necklace fastens with sterling silver cone ends with hook
and eye.
What is a Fetish? A fetish is a rock carving of an animal that captures the spirit and the essence of the animal, not necessarily its exact detailed conformation. The style and detail of carving varies among artists but usually includes detail on the face, ears, tail and mane. Often the eyes and other spots of adornment on the horse are inset pieces of contrasting stones such as turquoise, coral and others. The horse is an animal of freedom and the Horse Fetish has the power of healing, strength and safe movement. | ||||||||
