A flask like this is made by attaching two domed shaped stamped silver discs together. On this piece, the seamwork is impeccable as is the design work and precision fit of the lid.

Tobacco flasks, made of rawhide or silver, were often used in lieu of tobacco pouches to carry finer herbs and tobaccos that could be sprinkled into a pipe.
