About Fox Mine Turquoise Some of the oldest turquoise mines that have been going for years have had newly discovered veins recently. Domestic US turquoise is the most highly prized and sought turquoise for Native American jewelry. The Fox mine (also known as Cortez mine) is located near Lander County. It was Nevada's largest producer of turquoise in prehistoric times as well as when it was rediscovered in 1910. Fox turquoise is also called "White Horse Fox" because that is the area of Lander County where the blue variation is found. The Fox mine has produced large nuggets and has also been known as the Cortez mine. | ||||||||||||
