About Bennie Ration

One of the greatest contemporary Native American jewelry silversmiths of our time, Bennie Ration has a distinct three dimensional style with geometric patterns figuring prominently in his pieces. Using overlay to highlight and accent his designs, Bennie Ration creates unique pieces using the finest materials. His pieces are recognized all over the world as some of the finest silverwork.

He was born on the Canoncito Navajo reservation in New Mexico into a silversmithing family. His father, John Ration, began teaching Bennie the art of silversmithing in grade school.

About Fox Mine Turquoise

Some of the oldest turquoise mines that have been going for years have had newly discovered veins recently. Domestic US turquoise is the most highly prized and sought turquoise for Native American jewelry. The Fox mine (also known as Cortez mine) is located near Lander County. It was Nevada's largest producer of turquoise in prehistoric times as well as when it was rediscovered in 1910.

Fox turquoise is also called "White Horse Fox" because that is the area of Lander County where the blue variation is found. The Fox mine has produced large nuggets and has also been known as the Cortez mine.
