Paula says - "In my opinion, this bracelet shows all the design characteristics and workmanship of being Navajo made. But because we are unable to attribute the hallmark to a specific artist we can't legally sell it as Native American made - read more."

"This piece is NOS (new old stock) that was made more than a decade ago but never sold - it is brand new vintage!

Vintage JewelryLouisiana Collection

A splendid Chippewa gentleman who was a disabled veteran, operated a Native American jewelry store in Louisiana which he loved very much. He and his wife shopped in the southwest for their store. When he passed on, his wife, also a disabled veteran, didn't feel she would be able to operate the store alone and besides the memories of her dear husband were so entwined with the jewelry, she felt she needed to move on. After a few years, and with the help of a good girlfriend, she began going through the items in her storage locker and sending them to us to find new homes for.

All of these items are New Old Stock and some of them are vintage. This is quite a large collection which we will be listing for some time to come.

Coral, Red Coral (also called Red Branch Coral)
Red Coral is the common name given to Corallium Rubrum and several related species of marine coral. Red coral is a collection of hundreds of tiny animals living together in a colonies that resemble small leafless bushes growing on dark, rocky seabottom. The coral skeleton is composed hard calcium carbonate, colored in shades of red from pale pink to deep red. It can be semi-translucent to opaque. It is naturally matte, but can be polished to a glassy shine. Red coral is frequently dyed to enhance color and it can also be impregnated with resins or epoxies to fill surface fissures and flaws.

Coral jewelry has been found in ancient Egyptian and prehistoric European burials. The Romans believed coral could protect children from harm, as well as cure bites from snakes and scorpions and diagnose diseases by changing colour.

NOTE: Items in our Vintage Shop are either USED or NEW. They might come from inheritances, estate sales, private collections, and store liquidations. Many items are brand new (NOS, New Old Stock) and in perfect condition while others may show tarnish, scratches and other signs of use. Major issues will be described in detail and shown in photos. Vintage Shop items are sold as described and are not returnable.
Why isn't this item called Native American?

The US Department of the Interior Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990 and its recent Amendments require that items described as Native American or Indian be made by an enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe. Furthermore, government regulations suggest that all attributions include the Native American Indian's name, tribe and federal tribal enrollment number. Because it is impossible to identify the artist for many vintage items, even if they are authentic Indian made items, we cannot and will not use the words Native American or Indian in association with such pieces.
