Bronze Medallions
ALL SOLD
These 5 Medallions were found in a box together in the basement of our family home. We don't know how they got there so we did some research and will provide you with what we found out. They are works of art and truly gorgeous to see and hold. They are substantial in size and thickness and weight. These medals represent an interesting period in artistic metal work. After art medals reached a height of artistic quality and individuality in the Italian Renaissance, hundreds of years passed in which medals were regarded as utilitarian. The artistic aspect was lost for a time. But then in the late 19th century, the artistic nature of medals was revived by Hubert Ponscarme, Jules-Clément Chaplain and Oscar Roty. They and other talented medallists brought art back into the production of medals during the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. To read more about Art Nouveau and Art Deco medals and to see others, visit finemedals.com. Some of the medals appear to have names engraved on them. If you know anything more about these bronze medallions, please let us know. We don't speak French ! | ||
