The Fetish CollectionNavajo Pawn Collection

Hidden in a box for many years, these fetish necklaces came to light when Mrs. P was sorting through her late mother-in-law's possessions. We have no information on the artists and whether these necklaces are Zuni or Navajo but Mrs. P says that according to sales receipts, they were purchased "many years ago in Arizona". These items were never worn and some still had the original prices tags on them. Using the prices Native American Jewelry Blog tips and iinformationand artistry as a gauge, we guess these were made some time between 1960-1980. They are very unique and include many animals not often seen on fetish necklaces.

What is a Fetish?

A fetish is a rock carving of an animal that captures the spirit and the essence of the animal, not necessarily its exact detailed conformation. Read more about fetishes.
