Paula says -

"This large deerskin bag by Cynthia Whitehawk has double fringe all the way around. Whitehawk's bags show impeccable workmanship and attention to detail.

"One feature I especially like is the front half of the pouch is "pooched" out so that you can carry more items in it. This bag is functional art that you can carry as a purse or use for other purposes."

Hand braided neckstrap is an integral part of the bag's stitching line, so it is not reliant on the top flap for strength in carrying.

Words from Apache artist Cynthia Whitehawk:

MEDICINE BAG: Medicine bags are ancient personal empowerment tools. Spiritually representing the wearer, they contain that which is most Spiritually significant & healing to the individual to help guide and protect one on their journey. This might include collected Spirit objects or totems, a small feather, beads, horse hair, healing gemstones & crystals, seeds, photos & more. Those items that are important to the wearer protect, grounds them to our Mother Earth and the Creator, and brings them strength & healing.

MY MISSION: We are thankful and honored to be able to respect the Spirits of the plants, animals and Mother Earths elements who give themselves and continue their life as healing tools for us. We offer these tools for Spiritual expression, to be in balance with Mother Earth and one's self.

HORSE: The Horse Spirit inspires our dreams, awakens passion, carries us far and fast, and brings us close to our instinctual and authentic nature. Horse enables us to move beyond our limitations and run freely. Spirit or Medicine Horses were and are extremely helpful in guidance, healing, protection and ceremony. Horse represents wisdom, physical power and unearthly power. Horse enables healers to travel in Spirit energy, using Horse to help guide them to the answer. Horses are symbols that can express our magical side. Horses are also known as symbols of Freedom & independence.

LAPIS LAZULI: A deep blue stone often with gold flecking that twinkles like stars. The name lapis lazuli is a combination of the Latin word lapis ("stone") and the Arabian name azul, meaning "blue." Lapis is one of the few rocks used as a gem and one of the first gemstones ever to be worn as jewelry. A lapis gemstone won't fade in light but it is easily scratched and chipped.; clean it only with a soft, dry cloth to maintain its shine. Major mines are located in Afghanistan, Egypt, Canada and Chile.

Many ancient cultures believed that lapis lazuli contained magical powers. In the Middle Ages, monks powdered the stone and kneaded it into dough with beeswax, resin and linseed oil, for use in illuminated manuscripts. Today, people around the world consider lapis lazuli to be a stone of truth and friendship. It is reputed to bring about harmony in relationships and to cleanse the mental body while releasing old karmic patterns.
