Whitehawk - Apache | ||||||||||||
The lid has one large Embracing Raven, two smaller Ravens, and a Four Directions Medicine Wheel. The base has whirligig designs.
An Anasazi diamond design spans the lid and base, thereby helping for correct lid placement.
These ceremonial art designs are pyrographed (burned) onto the gourd, then dyed and painted.

"This lidded gourd is a one-of-a-kind box, designed, carved, wood burned and painted all by hand and in ceremonial spirit by Apache artist Cynthia Whitehawk. This is a big thick, strong gourd making a wonderful natural box. A perfect place to store your smudging supplies, jewelry or other sacred objects."

From Apache Artist Cynthia Whitehawk MY MISSION: We are thankful and honored to be able to respect the Spirits of the plants, animals and Mother Earths elements who give themselves and continue their life as healing tools for us. We offer these tools for Spiritual expression, to be in balance with Mother Earth and one's self. RAVEN/CROW - Raven and Crow are very similar in their strengths: both carry great responsibility to Spirit and are the messengers of magic and healing from the universe where all knowledge waits for us. They also symbolize changes in consciousness, of levels of awareness and perception. Shamans, Spiritualists and Healers with Raven/Crow Medicine are able to use their gifts with deeper clarity, understanding and insight, developing greater power and skill in their abilities.MEDICINE WHEEL - The Medicine Wheel represents American Indian Spirituality - the journey each individual must take to find his or her path. The Medicine Wheel is based on the four cardinal directions and the four sacred colors. A circle represents life; at the center of the circle is the eternal fire. APACHE TEARS - Apache Tears are a type of Obsidian that is often translucent when held up to the light. They are formed when hot lava shoots into the air and quickly solidified before hitting the ground. Apache Tears have many of the same healing qualities as regular black obsidian. Obsidian is a grounding and protective stone. It is used to clear away negative energies, helping to remove not only negativity experienced in the environment, but also that of one's own emotions, such as anger, jealousy, greed, and resentment. Obsidian is also used to free energy blockages and relieve stress by bringing opportunities for positive change into a person's awareness. Miniature pyrography (carving with fire) takes the utmost of patience, a precise clear vision, as well as an extremely delicate hand. Not only is miniature work the most difficult, but the most time consuming, add to that working on a slick rounded surface which requires the highest of skill. This art is extremely rare and only practiced by the most gifted of people. |
