Stacked Fetish Necklace
Stacked Fetish Necklace
- $95 plus
Paula says - "This is likely not Native American made but an imported item. Very pretty colors, matrix and variety of animals. A stacked fetish necklace has no beads or spacers between the animals."
Centerpiece is a standing bear.
A "squaw wrap" is where the ends of a necklace are permanently wrapped together so the necklace is slipped over the head to take it on and off. This necklace has a faux squaw wrap, that is, a tube of material that looks like a wrap has been slipped over the necklace cord. This results in the squaw wrap "look" and comfort but is not an authentic squaw wrap. Read more about the squaw wrap here.

The jewelry and artifacts in this collection were gathered by a man born in 1933 and who has been collecting for over 60 years. He has a great love of Native American people, their culture and customs and their art. Living and working most of his life in Texas, he has been particularly drawn to Lakota, Comanche, Apache, Pueblo, Navajo and Zuni pieces. We will be listing items from his collection over the next year, so keep an eye on the Newly Listed Items page.
What is block turquoise?
Block Turquoise is a manufactured material that is made to look like turquoise. It may be all polymer or it may have crushed or powdered turquoise or other stone mixed with resin or polymer. Block Turquoise sometimes has swirls or blobs of dark dye added to simulate the look of natural matrix. The value of block turquoise is that it is very stable, it will not change color or fracture as will natural turquoise. This enables the artist to use smaller beads for necklaces without the danger of them breaking. Jewelry made from block turquoise will look just as bright and beautiful years from now as from the day it was made. Natural turquoise, although beautiful, can deteriorate over time, losing color and stability. Most heishi and jacla necklaces use either block or stabilized turquoise for this reason. Read more about heishi here: All About Heishi.
