Paul Tenorio

Paul Tenorio from Santo Domingo Pueblo is best known for his fine heishi necklaces and earrings. He is one of the best. His stringing patterns are recognizable so that it is not only the quality of his handmade heishi which characterizes his work, but also his flair for pattern and color combinations which makes his work unique.

What is heishi?

Santo Domingo Pueblo artists are famous for their skill in making hand rolled and cut beads known as heishi. Made from shell, turquoise, and other stones, they are painstakingly cut by hand into delicate beads and strung on necklaces.
