About Richard SingerThe Navajo Singer family, from community of Dilcon on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, has been involved in silversmithing, stone and beadwork for a very long time, handing their art down from one generation to the next. Richard Singer's father, Tommy Singer, has been attributed as the first Native American artist to use chip inlay, where a silver piece is decorated with turquoise or coral chips. (See this bracelet for an example of chip inlay.) Richard and Tommy Singer are known world wide for their silver work, chip inlay and gemstone treasure necklaces. Their pieces are highly collectible and sought after. |
WHAT IS A SHADOWBOX?Shadowbox is an overlay design technique where there is space between the top and bottom layers of sterling silver creating a 3-dimensional shadow effect. The bottom layer is often darkened to enhance the shadowbox effect. |
