Words from Apache artist Cynthia Whitehawk:
Medicine bags are ancient personal empowerment tools. Spiritually representing the wearer, they contain that which is most Spiritually significant & healing to the individual to help guide and protect one on their journey. This might include collected Spirit objects or totems, a small feather, beads, horse hair, healing gemstones & crystals, seeds, photos & more. Those items that are important to the wearer protect, grounds them to our Mother Earth and the Creator, and brings them strength & healing.
We are thankful and honored to be able to respect the Spirits of the plants, animals and Mother Earths elements who give themselves and continue their life as healing tools for us. We offer these tools for Spiritual expression, to be in balance with Mother Earth and one's self.
Buffalo was the major source of sustenance for indigenous cultures of the plains, giving meat for food, hides for shelter and clothing, and Spirit Medicine. The appearance of Buffalo is a sign that prayers are being heard, that the sacred pipe and Spirit are being honored. Buffalo signals a time of abundance, prosperity and thankfulness. The medicine of Buffalo is prayer, gratitude and praise for that which has been received. Buffalo Medicine is also knowing that abundance is present when all relations are honored as sacred, and when gratitude is expressed to every living part of creation, recognizing the sacredness of every walk of life.
Jasper comes from the Greek word, iaspis, which means "spotted stone." A form of microcrystalline quartz, jasper derives its colorful patterns from other minerals present, and is often named according to its pattern. Jasper is generally opaque and has a dull luster but takes a fine polish. It is mined in North Africa, Sicily, France, India, Venezuela, Germany, the U.S.A. and elsewhere. It is thought by some that jasper has the power to give a person courage, drive away evil spirits and protect against bites of snakes spiders. Read about stones
