How to Think Like A Horse by Cherry Hill

Dear Cherry,

I'm 45 years old and have never owned a horse, I have ridden some and am planning on purchasing a horse, what would you suggest, age, breed, etc.

I will probably only trail ride. I'm leaning toward Morab's or Half Arabians.

I love animals and they seem to take to me.

Kimberly

Dear Kimberly,

I suggest you read Horse for Sale where I discuss the many factors that one should consider when buying a horse. I would definitely suggest you purchase a middle aged gelding that has had thorough training and therefore is "bomb proof".

There are good individuals in any breed for the purpose of trail riding but certainly a Morab or Half Arabian as I have described would be fine.

Be sure to take a knowledgeable, trustworthy horse professional along with you when you go horse shopping. I outline the procedures of horse shopping in detail in Horse for Sale.
