Dryland on Side of Hip?

Dear Cherry,

I have a yearling filly that on the side of her hip had a orange size bump, now is close to football size. She had no injuries. Can dryland be on side of hip. No sickness signs at all. There for 9 days so far. If dryland how long before draining? Can I give strangle shot if it is dryland?

Thanks, Royal Diamond Ranch

Hi Royal Diamond Ranch,

I thank you for your faith in me but I am not a veterinarian nor do I have the ability to see your horse in person.

Horse Health Care by Cherry HillI urge you to have your veterinarian take a look at your filly as soon as possible. This could be an abscess requiring immediate attention. The reasons for such a large and growing bruise or abscess are many and only by direct examination would a knowledgeable veterinarian be able to make a diagnosis and treatment recommendation.

Be sure you check with your vet before giving any vaccinations.Cherry Hill's Horsekeeping Almanac

Best of luck and if you do have the time, please let me know what your veterinarian's diagnosis is.
