What is Banded Onyx?

Banded onyx (also called mexican onyx and onyx marble) is a type of calcite, one of the most common minerals present in the earth's crust. It is somewhat translucent and banded colors include shades of yellow, pink, red, gray, and green. Onyx marble is quarried, among other places, in Mexico, California, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and Virginia.

True onyx is a different material, a very hard quartz stone (chalcedony) that is usually solid black or with bands of black and white. It is very hard and thus rarely used for hand-carved fetishes, but is quite popular for fine jewelry such as rings, pendants, earrings and necklaces.

Rabbit Symbolism

Rabbit represents gentleness, charm, and awareness of others. Rabbit is the special guardian of pregnant women, enabling safe birthing and a long life for children. Rabbit also teaches how to handle fear by first acknowledging it and then letting go. Rabbit says to focus on the good in our lives, not the bad - instead of imagining negative "what-ifs", focus on positive "what is".
