About Taxco Mixed Metal Inlay Jewelry

This bracelet is crafted in sterling silver (.925) and marked Taxco, Mexico, a world-renowned center for silver jewelry. It features a distinctive mixed metal inlay design, combining stone and metal elements within each panel.

The inlay includes copper and brass, which create warm contrasting tones against the silver setting. These metals are carefully cut and arranged to form a mosaic-like pattern, a technique widely used by Taxco artisans during the mid-20th century.

The green sections are likely turquoise or chrysocolla, both commonly used in Mexican jewelry for their rich color and natural variation. Together, the materials create a vibrant, textured surface that reflects both traditional craftsmanship and modern design influences.

Jewelry of this type was especially popular during the 1950s–1970s, when Taxco silversmiths experimented with mixed materials to produce bold, eye-catching pieces for the international market.

The mark “METALES” indicates a metalworking workshop or trade designation, often associated with pieces featuring combined materials.

About Silver

100% solid silver won't tarnish but it is too soft to use for making jewelry - it could easily be scratched, dented and bent. Sterling silver has a small amount of one or more other metals usually copper, added to the silver. To be called sterling silver, the alloy must contain at least 92.5% pure silver. Sterling silver alloy is harder than pure silver but the added metals also can cause discoloration or tarnish.
