Kewa or Santo Domingo?Santo Domingo and Kewa refer to the same pueblo; “Santo Domingo” is the old Spanish/colonial name, and “Kewa” is the traditional Keres name that the pueblo officially restored in 2009. Today the community, government, and many institutions use “Kewa Pueblo,” though you will still see “Santo Domingo” in older references, on some tourism materials, and in discussions of historic Route 66 or the pueblo’s mission-era past. |
