Paula says - "This gorgeous 14K gold bracelet and ring set weighs 48.4 grams. It is rare to find 14K gold Native American jewelry and especially so beautifully made. Using very thick stock and 14K gold channels, Isleta artisan Pete Sanchez has created a masterpiece charoite set." Ring size 6 1/2. Ring stamped 14K. |
What is Charoite?Charoite is an easy gemstone to indentify because of its violet to purple color an distinctive white, black and brownish swirls. Sugilite, another purple gemstone, is the closest in appearance but it lacks the distinguishing wispy white inclusions of Charoite. It is a relatively new stone, being first discovered by a Russian geologist in 1948 between the Chara and Tokko Rivers in the Siberia region of Russia. This is still the only place in the world it is found. It was not until 1977 that Charoite was scientifically identified as a mineral and gemstone and was named Charoite after the Chara river. About GoldGold is the most malleable of precious metals and is prized for jewelry because it does not corrode, tarnish or rust. It can be found nearly everywhere, in rivers, mountains and oceans, but it is very difficult and expensive to mine and refine. The karat is a unit of measurement for the proportion of gold an item contains.
