Paula says - "I searched high and low for a simple crossbody pouch for my Samsung Galaxy S25 phone - one that would allow me to easily slip the phone in and out and also zip the top closed for security. I finally found the perfect bag made of PU leather. The PU stands for polyurethane. This material is soft but thick and durable. The lining is slick polyester with a divider so you can add keys or cards to the other compartment. Once I started using the bag, I dressed it up with a pin, a horsehair tassel, some pendants and rings up and down the shoulder strap. In our recent trip to Texas, I got lots of comments and even a couple of offers to buy my bag! So once I got home, I made a few more using some new and vintage sterling silver Native-American-made eye candy. I hope you find one you like! Larger phones will fit in this bag - see the dimensions. And you can customize the bag by substituting or adding your favorite jewelry."

What is Knifewing?

Knifewing, also Knife Wing, is a half man - half eagle Zuni spirit or god with razor sharp feathers made of flint. He is the ultimate warrior.

Anthropologist Frank Hamilton Cushing, who lived with the Zunis from 1879-1884 described knifewing this way:

"This curious god is the hero of hundreds of folklore tales, the tutelary deity of several societies of Zuni. He is represented as possessing a human form, furnished with flint knife-feathered pinions, and tail. His dress consists of the conventional terraced cap (representative of his dwelling place among the clouds). His weapons are the Great Flint-Knife of War, the Bow of the Skies (the Rainbow), and the Arrow of Lightning. His guardians or warriors are the Great Mountain Lion of the North and that of the upper regions. He was doubtless the original War God of the Zunis."

Horace Iule (also known for his crosses) is credited with creating the first knifewing design in the late 1920s, cut and filed out of wrought silver. Afterwards, other Zuni, Navajo and Pueblo began producing knifewing designs. The knifewing became one of the first designs that the Zuni inlaid with stones.

Dragonfly Symbolism

In Plains Indian traditions, dragonflies are symbols of protection and invincibility. Pictures of dragonflies were often painted on war shirts and tepees to ward off danger. Dragonfly symbolizes change and the stripping away of all negativity that holds us back, helping us to achieve our dreams and goals. Dragonfly is the keeper of dreams that sees all of our true potential and ability and helps us on the path of discovery and enlightenment. Dragonfly reminds us that anything is possible.

ABOUT OPAL

Opal is a naturally blue stone with interior fracturing of light which results in a play of color. Opal is October's birthstone and is believed to make the wearer less self-conscious, thereby encouraging spontaneous action and awakening one's psyche.

Natural opal

(also known as precious opal) contains between 3-10% water but can be as high as 20% and this can make the stones less stable.

Lab opal

is considered a true synthetic or created opal – produced in controlled laboratory conditions and with the same chemical composition as natural opal but with a very low moisture content making it more durable. Lab opal has much fracturing of light and brilliant colors including blue, pink, purple, red and green..

Imitation opal

(artificial or simulated opal) is different chemically from natural and lab opal. It is made up of 80% silica and 20% resin and is an economical option to both precious and lab opal. It is the opal most commonly used in Native American jewelry.

Is it Mother of Pearl or Abalone?

Mother of pearl, also known as nacre, is the outer coating of pearls and is also a protective layer that forms the lining of some mollusks including abalone. It is strong, resilient, and iridescent, which means that it changes color as the angle of view or the angle of light changes. Mother of pearl from most mollusks has a milky white or silver appearance, whereas mother of pearl from abalone has dark rainbow hues.
