Exchanges and Returns

We are a Mom and Pop store, not an Amazon or Wal-Mart. We take great pride in providing unique items and stellar customer service. If you need more information about an item before purchasing, please contact us. Returns are costly for us in terms of time and money. Shipping, tracking, insurance, and other transaction fees are continually rising. So we appreciate you understanding our return policy. Thank you! If you are not familiar with us or our store, we encourage you to read about us and read feedback from our customers.

Damaged items. If we don't hear from you within 7 days from the Delivery Confirmation date, we will assume you have received your complete order in good condition. Please let us know immediately upon receipt if an item arrives damaged. We will advise you how to handle the return.

Packages Returned to Us as Undeliverable. If you have provided an invalid address and the package is returned to us we will contact you for reshipping instructions, and this will require a reshipping cost. If we do not hear from you, we will refund your item price minus a 15% restocking fee.

New Books in original, unused condition and unopened Audio Tapes, Video Tapes, and DVDs (unused and still in original shrink wrap) can be returned within 3 days of receipt for refund of item cost (not shipping). Items must have been purchased from us at www.horsekeeping.com.

Audio Tapes, Video Tapes and DVDs that are defective will be replaced at no charge.

Autographed Books are not returnable nor refundable.

Collectible Books are returnable within 3 days of receipt only if we have made a mistake in the description. Please read descriptions carefully, contact Paula at if you have any questions before purchase.

Inventory Sale and Blemished Books are not returnable.

Dooney & Bourke Handbags and Tack items are returnable only if we have made a mistake on the description of the item or have sent you the wrong item. Read the description carefully, browse through the photos and ask Paula questions before you buy ().

Native American Items and Jewelry. If you have any questions about a Native American or other jewelry item, please write Paula before purchase.

Items that are NOT returnable include:

  • Items that have been used, worn or damaged.
  • Bracelets or rings that have been adjusted.
  • Dolls.
  • Items from the Vintage Shop, Bargain Barn, Mexican Shop or Copper Shop or any items listed as NOS (New Old Stock).
  • Feathers and Fans.
  • Smudging Supplies.
  • Pipe bowls, pipe stems.
  • Medicine bags

New Native American items (other than those listed above) and new jewelry can be returned. You need to obtain a Return Authorization Number and the return package must be postmarked within 7 days of your receipt of the order.

Important! Returns and exchanges can only be initiated by the person who paid for the item.

Return Procedure. Before returning any item, first contact Paula at to obtain a Return Authorization Number and write it on the outside of the package. Pack all items carefully to protect them in transit. We recommend you purchase insurance because any loss or damage to an item on its way back to us is your responsibility. Enclose a copy of your original order in the package. (Print the email you received when you placed the order.) Returns must be postmarked within 7 days of your receipt of the item.

Refunds. If the above procedures have not been followed, the following fees will be assessed.

20% to 100% if item is returned without prior authorization
20% to 100% if the return is postmarked after 7 days of receiving it

When the Return Procedure has been followed, and we receive the item in its original condition (new, unused, undamaged), we will offer an exchange credit (of the full item price) toward an item of equal or greater value than the returned item. The exchange must take place within one week of the return. If the customer does not want to exchange but wants a refund, we will refund the item price minus a restocking fee as outlined below. The original shipping cost is not refundable and the return shipping cost and insurance is the customer's responsibility. However, if there was an error in the listing or we sent you the wrong item, we will reimburse all shipping costs.

Restocking Fee

We will deduct a 15% restocking fee from a refund if the item description was correct but you ordered the wrong item, the wrong size, or didn't like the item, or if the item was returned to us as undeliverable.

We reserve the right to refuse a refund or offer store credit if any item is returned damaged, is returned without prior authorization, or the return was postmarked past 7 days of the receipt of the item.

If you place an order and the order settles with the credit card processor or PayPal and then you ask us to cancel the order, we reserve the right to deduct the processing costs of the initial order and the refund. We are charged 3-6% of your order total to process your order and refund it.

Return Summary -

  • On all returns, first get a Return Authorization Number from Paula.
  • Package the items carefully and insure the packages for your protection.
  • Enclose original order information.
  • Return must be postmarked within 7 days of your receipt of the item.
